Who is eligible to be a JW Camper?
Any child 10-14 years-old who wants to attend Camp Wewa and whose family needs financial assistance to make that happen. We aren’t looking for straight-A’s or superstar athletes (although these qualities are great!), we just require kids who want to spend a week under the oak trees, next to the lake, making great memories with friends.
How does a family qualify for financial assistance through the JW Camp Fund?
Camp Wewa’s current rate is $650 for a 5-night session, plus a $50 application fee. If this is challenging for your family, we want to help! We offer full and partial funding. Just complete our simple application providing a little information about your child and your family and we’ll take it from there.
I have two children who would love to attend Wewa; can I apply for two JW Campers?
Yes! We’re going to do everything we can to raise enough money to send as many JW Campers as we can to Camp Wewa. We look forward to the day that we can send everyone who applies.
How do you choose JW Campers?
We evaluate a family’s entire application, and we may email or call a parent to follow up with a few more questions but we want to make the process as easy as possible. Priority will be given to those campers we feel have the best chance of “success” at Camp Wewa.
If my child is chosen as a JW Camper this summer, can we re-apply next summer?
Yes! We hope to eventually offer funding for all returning campers whose families continue to demonstrate need.
Can the JW Camp Fund help with other costs like camp gear, transportation, etc.?
Yes! We want all JW Campers to get to camp prepared, so our volunteers are happy to go over the packing list with campers and help with any items needed. We can also help organize transportation for your child (local, within driving distance of Camp Wewa). We want to be a resource for families – particularly for those who aren’t familiar with what camp entails – and to help make the experience fully inclusive.
How will the JW Camp Fund handle payment of my child’s camp fees should s/he be chosen as a JW Camper?
We will pay all JW Campers’ tuition directly to the City of Apopka Camp Wewa. Any other items covered by the JW Camp Fund will be through item donation rather than cash awards.
